![]() The Pleasure Reader imprint was one among many issuing by the Corinth Greenleaf adult publishing empire. Initial books of the series were issued in the smaller-than-usual paperback book format that Greenleaf was accustomed to printing their books from their first Nightstand books in 1959. The smaller format was attributed to the constraints of hiring out an inexpensive and adult cooperative printing firm -- which was eventually found in Sandusky, Ohio -- and calibrated to print coloring books. The coloring book press set-up was adjusted to print paperbacks which explains both the flimsy cover and pulp paper attributes of the early Greenleaf books as well as the odd size of the books.Though not issued until the Greenleaf operations had moved to San Diego, the Pleasure Reader line began in a similarly small format -- both with the distinction of having particularly nice cover art -- courtesy of newer West Coast artists under the direction of Robert Bonfils. Ed Smith, Daryl Milsap and others turned in exceptionally alluring art work for the entire run of the Pleasure Readers. Check in on the Paperback Cover Art Gallery Section for a better look at these gorgeous books. And check out the Vintage Sleaze Greenleaf sections for all the Greenleaf books. Be sure to cross-check the "Writers" and "Artists" sections for more work from these great artists. |
